Meeting in Jerusalem

Class Summary Basmat Tiv’on 24th Feb 2014

Class summery – 24/2- Basmat Tiv’on- consumerism

Today there were only 5 girls in the class (the rest were in English class and arrived 5 min before the end of the class) but we decided to make the class anyway. We started by showing the presentation of the weekly food- we looked at the pictures, the amount of money each family spend on food and the amount of children in each family. We talked about each family’s consumerism style and compared it to their one. We talked about the way the families in our class are consuming, about where they buy food and how much they spend. Next we played a game- we said sentences relating to consumerism and food and whoever agrees needed to go to one side of the classroom and whoever disagreed went to the other side and it was a scale. We talked about the questions and about their choices regarding the consumptions. Other than the fact that there were only 5 students the class was good and we recommend it.

We talked to yosra and next week we are going to start a small garden- they are getting used tires so they will paint them and we will all plant in them next week insha’alla.

Ecological Survey Class

Feb 23 2014

Ecological Survey

How do we influence our environment?

Continuing last week’s discussion about our impact on our environment, we did an ecological survey of the different areas

We split up into groups of three; each group was investigating one of the three areas. They came up with questions about their area- what will be there, why?

Then we shared the questions

Everyone has to ask all the same questions in the end.

We all went outside and investigated.

Each group did 10 sections in their area to check, for

Birds, insects, animals, plants, garbage, buildings, people

How many and which kinds

We will collect the data and next week put in the computers, and then share with the other school data online.

Human Impact Class

Feb 16 2014

Human impact

How do we influence our environment?

We talked about ecosystem services that we get from our environment. There are

Regulating and

Cultural services

We made a list and talked about each example and how important these things are in our lives.

We talked about how we impact our environment; by using these services are we hurting our environment, are there ways to be in our environment without negatively impacting? Green building? What about gardens?

We went our to look at our garden and see how we are impacting our environment.

Then in the classroom- I brought aerial maps of their area- we looked at the three areas:

What do we see in each area – how do we impact our area- good  or bad.
